Nine Reasons You Work Too Hard (and how to stop)

Do you push yourself to your absolute limits? If so, then you may have underlying issues which you need to explore.

Below are nine of the most common causes of workaholism.

  1. No role models when growing up for showing self compassion
  2. Having an inner slave driver
  3. Childhood conditioning
  4. An escape from loneliness, anxiety or depression
  5. Your self worth and self esteem tied to your accomplishments
  6. Ambition
  7. Greed
  8. Financial pressures
  9. Unhappy marriage or home life

To combat the compulsion to overwork try the following:

  1.  Imagine you are on your deathbed and are looking back over your life. Make a list of the highlights. What was most meaningful and memorable? Did rushing around and pulling all nighters make it to that list?
  2. Instead of stressful multitasking, get involved in one activity per day for example playing golf or filing papers. No matter if it is work or pleasure related, enjoy focusing your full attention and energy on that one thing and enjoy the peace, satisfaction and joy this brings.
  3. Practice self compassion! You are hereby given permission to have regular down times to do something for yourself that you enjoy - yes, you do deserve it! This can be as simple as stopping what you are doing to play to a favourite song, or having an afternoon nap - the details are up to you.
Realize that you are creating the compulsion to overwork and that by regularly practicing self compassion you can resist this compulsion.

Say NO to your inner slave driver and YES to self compassion - your future self will thank you for it!

Dedicate Each Day for a More Meaningful Life

07:11 Posted by Unknown , , No comments

You can set the tone of your day by dedicating it to a specific goal, intention or theme that you'd like to experience. Choosing something that personally significant and menaingful to you will align you with your innate power. For example, if you suffer from low self esteem you may devote the day taking good care of yourself, seeing the beauty in yourself and finding positive personal qualities in all that you do for that day.

By offering a dedication every morning you will attract situations which resonate with the theme or goal of your dedication.  Try saying the following words adding your own dedication:

Today's Dedication

I dedicate this day to __________________________________________________________.
                                        (fill in the blank)

Remember every day is an opportunity for something new.

Dealing With Anxiety

Anxiety creates a restlessness within your mind and body that creates an unsettled feeling, making it difficult for you to focus and concentrate. These feelings come from a search for peace - without knowing how or where to find it. We experience it as a relentless pursuit of perfection and a desire for control in an attempt to find some serenity in our lives but what we end up creating is a quagmire of stress.

Take Frequent Breaks

Real peace and serenity cannot be found by outward distractions and diversions, this can only be found by tuning in to the core of your being where your inner light resides. Take frequent breaks throughout the day (and especially during difficult situations, or whenever you feel anxious), close your eyes and breathing deeply while focusing on a calming thought will help bring harmonious solutions to all apparent problems.

Anxiety as Physical Pain

If this technique does nothing to alleviate your anxiety and you feel anxiety as physical pain you may benefit from using a cellular memory cleansing techniques which I will discuss in further posts.
